Understanding the Condition

What is
Hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition characterised by sweating far beyond what the body needs for temperature regulation. It affects up to 3% of the population and can significantly impact confidence, work, and daily life.

Primary hyperhidrosis is caused by overactivity of the sympathetic nervous system — the same system our neurologists specialise in. It most commonly affects the underarms (axillary), palms (palmar), and soles (plantar).

Unlike regular sweating, hyperhidrosis can occur regardless of temperature or physical activity, often without any obvious trigger.

Difficulty using phones or keyboards
Constant clothing changes needed

How It Affects Your Life

  • Embarrassment during handshakes, meetings and social events
  • Difficulty with tasks requiring grip or fine motor control
  • Skin breakdown, odour and secondary infections
  • Constant anxiety about visible sweat marks on clothing
  • Avoidance of sport, dating and everyday activities
  • Significant impact on mental health and self-confidence
Important: Hyperhidrosis is a recognised medical condition — not a hygiene issue. Our neurologist will conduct a thorough clinical assessment before recommending treatment, including ruling out secondary causes.
The Treatment

How the
Injections Work

Our injections temporarily block the nerve signals that trigger sweat glands, providing dramatic and long-lasting relief from excessive sweating.

Common Questions

Everything
You Need
to Know

Have more questions? Call or email our rooms — our team is happy to help.

📞 (08) 6243 0334 ✉️ info@nervesync.com.au
Is the treatment painful?
Underarm injections are generally very well-tolerated. Palmar and plantar treatment can be more sensitive — we apply topical anaesthetic cream beforehand. Most patients are surprised at how manageable the procedure is.
How long do results last?
Results typically last 6–9 months, with some patients reporting up to 12 months. When sweating returns, a repeat session can be scheduled. Medicare rebates apply to each eligible repeat cycle.
Do I need a GP referral?
A GP referral is required to access Medicare rebates. If you haven't seen your GP yet, we recommend doing so first. Contact our rooms and we'll guide you through the process. Self-referral private consultations are also available.
Is there any downtime?
No significant downtime. Most patients return to normal activities immediately. Avoid intense exercise, saunas, and hot baths for 24 hours. Minor redness at injection sites resolves within a few hours.
Which areas can be treated?
We treat axillary (underarm), palmar (palms), and plantar (soles) hyperhidrosis. Axillary hyperhidrosis is covered under MBS item 18370. Contact us to discuss which areas apply to your situation.
Can I access telehealth for an initial consult?
An initial telehealth consultation with Dr Saleem may be available to assess suitability and discuss treatment. The injections themselves require an in-person visit to our Subiaco clinic.
Why choose NerveSync over a cosmetic clinic?
Hyperhidrosis is a neurological condition. Our specialist can formally diagnose it, rule out secondary causes, provide Medicare documentation, and manage underlying nerve-related factors — none of which is available at cosmetic clinics.
